5 “C’s” today are making life harder for our children then ever before:

  • Couch:  Often accompanied by the another C (computer device!)
  • Chair:  Increased time sitting, drive time, class time, homework time, eating.  car, chair, chair, car, couch, chair.
  • Computer devices:  It is not just the time sitting, it is also the time in the hunched, forward head, super stuff close to your eyes problem.
  • Concern:  Life is just more stressful, busy and the expectations are more demanding on our youth then ever before.  Many children are experiencing fear about school, insecurities about appearance, and higher expectations on achievement in sports.
  • Convenience:  Today's life is pretty darn convenient.   We are almost "convenience" to death...  ha ha.  Not so funny.

It's not easy to fight the battle of the C's, but you can! And you can win!

You need to understand where your child is in terms of “real” health.   Things like alignment/posture, flexibly, community, strength, and confidence.

You need to make changes in your home that will make it easy for your child to make better choices even if they are slightly uncomfortable or difficult for you.  The greater the health concern, the more this is true.

Find activities that get your child moving, that are fun and enjoyable for your child.  It should be confidence building, inline with long term health values, and a fit for your child and family.

Follow up with your child’s “activity teacher” to understand the progress they are making and what else can be done to improve their health.

Get a “shoe-cation”. What is a shoe-cation?  It is an education on shoes.  This is so key.  Key.  It’s key.  Hint:  This will not involve a super expensive, orthotic, imported from Italy type of shoe.

Have the family participate in joyful movement together.  My mom used to say:  “Do what I say, not what I do.”  You can imagine how well that works.  You need to do what you say if you want to be an example for your child.

You are not alone.  Join our group of like-minded individuals who are dedicated to raising confident and strong children in today’s technology, chair driven, pressure cooker world.

We all want to raise a child in today’s world who can play for hours and stand tall and confident, ready for a happy and healthy future.
