Our program has taken some wonderful advice from martial arts.  We like the structure, format and motivation that it provides.  As a result, we have 5 levels of proficiency that our kids can promote through.  Full specific details are in the PAS booklet.  All kids are progressed when they show they are ready and do their best.  This is non competitive level testing—based on the individual child.

White Shirt Level
Beginner, where everyone starts

Anatomy  1
Basic large skeletal bones to provide fun and easy information and keep it simple.

Beginner Pilates Exercises
The most foundational exercises that create the foundation for the rest of the program.
Picture
Mad Skills  1
A few skills that will be key to understanding for proper technique of the Pilates repertoire.

Routine  1
Memorizes the first basic Pilates routine as taught in class.  It will include many of the learned movements and poses executed with the correct form.

Yellow Shirt Level
Ah, we have proven our ability to develop skills that are needed for movement across many disciplines but we are still very young in our development.

Anatomy  2
We begin to add more complexity and tie the anatomy with movement.  This will also be the foundation of the muscles and the bones working together.

Beginner/Intermediate Pilates Exercises
Foundational work and some entry level positions of the next level movements.
Mad Skills  2
Continue to work and make habit the first most fundamental skills and start to illustrate the next ones.

Routine  2
Memorizes the second basic Pilates routine as taught in class.  It will include many of the learned movements and poses executed with the correct form.  The student now practices and knows 2 routines.

Now we are getting good.  Students at this level have demonstrated a decent knowledge of a number of Pilates exercises as well as spent time developing their skills and routines.

Anatomy 3
Deeper and deeper into the body as the understanding of what we are doing works deeper and deeper as well.  Learning to name and memorize bones and muscle anatomy and understand what movements will work what parts of the body.

Intermediate Pilates Exercises
The next level of movements will involve more of the body where certain skills must be natural and used without reminding.  In short, this may mean that if the student is learning a plank with a leg lift they know how to hold their neck, spine and shoulders before they even think of lifting a leg.
Mad Skills 3
A few more challenging skills to accomplish good technique of the more advanced Pilates repertoire.

Routine  3
Memorizes the third more challenging Pilates routine as taught in class.  It will include many of the learned movements and poses executed with the correct form.  The student now practices and knows 3 routines.

By this point, the student has been with our program for more then a couple of years in most cases.  This child knows their proper alignment in a natural way, understands breathing and meditation and practices it and has developed a strong Pilates practice.

Anatomy  4
This anatomy is going to combine all previously learned and include more information on the anatomy of breath.  It wouldn't be Pilates without education on the breath.  This is a fundamental life-ling learning skill that will pay off dividends in relaxation, oxygen, stress management and overall health for the rest of the child's life.

Intermediate/Advanced Pilates Exercises
Begin to see some seriously complex whole body movements executed with grace, strength, balance and confidence.  This level of work does take time and practice and can be used for all activities, across all sports and into the advanced years of any person.  What a gift to have now!
Mad Skills 4
A few more challenging skills to accomplish good technique of the more advanced Pilates repertoire.

Routine  4
Memorizes the fourth more challenging Pilates routine as taught in class.  It will include many of the learned movements and poses executed with the correct form.  The student now practices and knows 4 routines.

Black Shirt Level
Wow, you made it to the big leagues in Pilates After School.  You should be very proud of how far you have come.  I hope you enjoy your level and share your gift with others!

Anatomy  5
At this level to progress all Black Shirts must have a solid understanding and have memorized all the previous anatomy.  They can be tested on bones, muscles, proper body alignment, breathing anatomy, movements and how certain Pilates movements change and work within the body.

Intermediate/Advanced Pilates Exercises
Depending on the age and physical abilities of each individual child they will progress to the level that is advanced for them.  Any and every child can reach this level as long as they have worked hard and stuck with it showing perseverance and respect for their body and the work!  That being said, this level will challenge the student to combine all they have learned into the most advance movements for their age range.  These movements are only safe when done with all the skills and earlier movements mastered.  Be proud!
Mad Skills 5
The most advanced skills to support and demonstrate proper form and correct alignment.

Individual Routine
At this level, the child creates and demonstrates their own individual Pilates routine that they developed from all they have learned so far.  They also are expected to know the other routines as well and should be "in their bodies" from all the practice and repetition over the years.
