Pilates is Fun, Challenging and Coordinated Whole Body Movement with a focused mind.

We vary the class based on the age, as there are significant changes in just a few years.  Our younger classes do more play and games our older kids can do a longer set of strength and stretching exercises.  Together the more advanced kids help teach the newer kids.

Ages 4-8

With this young age, our goal is really to get them to enjoy movement and introduce the concepts, exercises, and vocabulary to build upon.  Very play based.

Sample schedule:
—Snack and Chat
—Discussion during snack. topics include; healthy food, Anatomy, Pilates exercises.
—Special helper
—Strike a pose to music
—Focus exercises; Imaginary ball pass and catch
—Breathing
—Games (depending on ages):  Troll under the bridge, Pilates says, Snake charmer, Make a pizza, do your movement and the movement of the people before you, etc.
—30 second meditation practice
—Fish bowl - introducing the exercises:  mostly PRE Pilates movements and modified beginning exercises.
—Partner work
—Kid bowling

Ages 9-13

Providing good movement education and physical awareness at this time fosters important skills for navigating sports and academic challenges that are becoming more demanding.  This is really the "magic window" for developing proper form and habits that will last a lifetime.  Still play based, but more focus on form than just executing the Pilates strength and coordination movements.

Sample schedule:
—Snack and Chat
—Discussion during snack. topics include; healthy food, Anatomy, Pilates exercises.
—1 + minute meditation practice
—Focus exercises;
—Breathing
—Explore and discuss the movement of animals.
—Games are similar to younger children, however, this age can do more for longer and also help lead
—30 second - 1 minute meditation (quiet time)
—Fish bowl - introducing the exercises:  roll up, bridge, 100s, push ups, rolling like a ball and more (all modified for children) and when ready progressing to swimming, one leg circle, spine twist etc.
—Partner work
—Kid bowling

Ages 12 -18

Really beginning to understand and implement the fundamental movement principles of Pilates.

We will hone the precision of the movements to help develop the mind/body connection and movement control.

All interactions and corrections will be positive and supportive.  The goal is to teach that body awareness and mindfulness will create a powerful combination for future endeavors.

The goal with this group is to help them achieve more for what their doing in life.  If they have a particular sport, we coach toward that or if they need to develop more mind/body connection we help there and of course all young people need more feet and core strength to keep them injury free as they progress into adult hood.
